Welcome to my journey!
My name is Laleshka and as I’m sure most of you do not know how to pronounce my name, to help, it’s pronounced “Lah-leh-sh-kah”.
I am 19 years old and have a passion for health, along with a story/testimony on reversing an auto-immune disease commonly known as Ulcerative Colitis. My ultimate goal is to influence and help others find the power within themselves to heal and create their own happiness. I believe we are all forever healing and evolving in many aspects in our lives, so let’s heal together!
Since middle school years, I’ve always had some type of interest in health. Whenever asked, I used to say I wanted to be a dietitian or nutritionist. I wasn’t the “healthiest”, but made an effort to consistently exercise, drink water, eat fruits and vegetables, etc. Back then, my parents didn’t know a lot of what they know now, but they made sure we were health conscious in small ways.
I created this blog to share my story and help anyone out there going through what I have been through, or any health issue in general. If I had not experienced my sickness, I would not be as knowledgeable as I am today. Reason being? Sometimes experience is the most insightful teacher.
Freshman year of high school was the start to my health declining. I remember one day I started noticing changes in my digestion. I didn’t give it too much thought and assumed it would be back to normal in no time. Once the problem continued without any signs of getting better, I gained the courage to tell my parents what I was feeling. We went to urgent care to get some feedback, returning home with no luck or idea of how to move forward. No one was really able to help and instead told me to attempt eating more white foods rather than brown, or to try lactose-free milk, etc. Nothing helped. I dealt with it as it got worse over the years. I had severe stomach pain all day, everyday pretty much feeling like a sharp stab. I dealt with internal bleeding, frequent bowel movements, urgent need to defecate, malnutrition due to my body not absorbing anything I put in it, and more.
The summer before my senior year of high school, I was able to get a colonoscopy to finally find out my diagnosis was Ulcerative Colitis. The doctors told me there was no cure, and recommended I took steroids to simply help ease the problems which comes with tons of side effects. I never liked to take pharmaceutical medications so I was not leaning towards taking what they recommended. A couple of months before I got my diagnosis, my sister passed away in the hospital due to a separate health issue than mine. I saw how much medications the doctors gave her, and the way it negatively impacted her. It definitely opened my eyes to the pharmaceutical industry and gave me even more of a reason not to get on medication that they recommended.
Things got worse from there on because I started to think so negative. I felt like I had no hope and that I would really have to live with it for the rest of my life. Since I love to research, I started to search on natural cures for UC. Also, I came across Dr. Sebi (an herbalist) who opened my eyes to so much relating to food. Long story short, my mom found an herbalist on Facebook named Jose Torres (located in P.R). He shares info on what herbs to take for different diseases and has a 21 day healing method. I cleaned my diet up, alternated drinking 2 different teas (Turmeric & Yarrow) 3 times a day, before my meals. I also took a capsule of Boswellia at night before bed. I didn’t notice much results until the end of the 21 days, which was life changing. I did the 21 day method one more time after taking a 3 day break from the first round. His suggestion was to repeat the method until you are fully healed. My digestion was back to normal, I had no more pains, and was able to live a normal day again. It was not easy what so ever and took a lot of faith. Me & my mom spoke positive affirmations daily. I still to this day (2 years later) do not show any signs of UC. As I was healing, I slowly switched to being a vegetarian, and am now plant based/vegan. I have learned so much throughout that journey and like to share my story to those who are not aware of what a holistically healthy life transition can do to you.
Don’t give up, research, believe, be open minded, do whatever you have to do to gain your health back. Also, take control of your health now, to prevent these diseases.
Much love to all, if you have any questions reach out to me through email or social media!
